Daily Odd Compliments

Today has been quite a gloomy day. I am not very focused. I am tired. And well, honestly, I just do not want to do anything. However, the homework must get accomplished.

This day was not exactly what I had hoped it to be. That is okay though. We all have gloomy days.

I will say though there has been one thing in particular that has just made me laugh until I snort -- yes, I snort when I laugh -- and tears are rolling down my face.

What is it you ask? Well.. It is these things called Daily Odd Compliments.

Logan Rhoades is the wonderful person who created them. (I do not personally know him. I am just thinking that he is wonderful for the funny compliments he cerated.)

I am grateful for the randomness of them. I am grateful for the ten seconds that they give me to just remember that life is supposed to be enjoyed... even on gloomy days. Thank you, Logan Rhoades.

Here is an example:

Boy Meets World

So... for Christmas I received all seven seasons of Boy Meets World. (Shout-out thanks to my grandma!)

It is February and I am on season seven. I forgot how much I loved this show. The thing I also forgot is how much this show addresses different issues that life throws at us as we "grow-up."

Being a college student now, it is crazy to think that I still am able to connect with these characters. In the past seven seasons, I have watched them grow up. They are sophomores in college. I am a senior in college. Things do change from sixth grade to college. All, of course, which is expected and part of life.

This show has reminded me how blessed I am to have a family who truly cares about me and has my best interest in mind.

Another thing that I have noticed about this show is the Christian overtones that it entails. This family prays together and are not afraid to talk about the hard things.

This show has reminded me how blessed I am to have a family that has raised me in a Christian home that has taught me that we have hope beyond what this world can offer.

I really do not have much more to say. It is just that Boy Meets World will always be one of those shows that I will never get tired of watching reruns. It will be a show that I will allow my future children to watch.

I pray that one day when I have my own family that we can be a family like the Matthew's. I pray that I can be a family like the one that my parent's have blessed me with

Love,

Kaitie

P.S. Yes, they are airing a spin-off show called, Girl Meets World. I hope that it lives up to expectations.

Days Like Today...

Gulf Shores, Ala.
2012
Days like today make me want to pack up and just drive. Drive with the windows down, hair down blowing in the wind, country music turned up and me singing as if I were at my very own concert. Not a care in the world and no where to be. Maybe I'd end up at the ocean? Maybe I'd end up at a local diner for ice cream? Either way this weather just calls for a good mood. Little things like "perfect" weather is just another thing to thank God for today.

Never Enough Books

Today in one of my classes I had the assignment of bringing a list of five books that we want to read after graduation.

If you are a personal friend of mine reading my blog then you know that I absolutely love to read. You know that one of my dreams is to have a library in my future home. (I'm currently doing an excellent job of gathering books, in case you were wondering.)  If you are not a personal friend then well... now you know.

I have many books in my dorm room and even more books in my room at home. Many of which I have not had the time to read. College books and assignments seem to take precedent. Ha.

One of my goals after graduation is to read one book per month. (Two would be ideal.) Books, in my opinion, are one of the best outlets that allow a person to continue to learn. Many books that I read are either related to ministry or mass communications. Why is this? Well, because they are related to my majors. They are things that I take interest in.

I also want to read other books (see list below) that have been recommended by friends or that have been best-sellers. Something that I have been trying to challenge myself to do is read things that are out of my typical go-to books. For example, I wish I had a better understanding of history. To narrow that topic down... I wish I had better understanding of pivotal moments in history such as wars, Presidential elections, etc. I wish I knew more about certain key people from history. For example, Winston Churchill fascinates me, but never have I actually read a book about him. So that is my challenge for myself. To read more about different topics I want to gain knowledge in. Like I mentioned above, we learn by reading.

So here's the thing... When given the assignment to make a list of five books my mind went wild. Five books immediately popped into my brain. In fact, it made me want to go to a bookstore right then to gather new titles that aren't already in my "library."

I love the smell of the books. I love the feel of books. I love the atmosphere of a bookstore. I love the small insights, new perspectives, life lessons and quotes that can be realized from books. If you are anything like me then you get this emotional attachment to characters in the book. You try to figure out which character you are most like. What would you do in their situation?

I also like to read things that challenge my thinking. Do I believe what I am reading? If yes, then why? If no, then why? This is also something that has been fairly new to me. The concept of reading something that you might not agree with. And guess what? It is okay to not agree with everything you read. It is good practice to read things you disagree with because I think it allows you to realize life isn't all about you.

So with all this being said...or well typed...the key points I am trying to make are that there will never be enough books for me to read. There will always be books that I want to read. There will always be something new that I want to learn more about. There will always be books that challenge my thinking. There will always be books that I will not agree with. There, and lastly, will always be books to add to my "library."

Books I Want to Read:
(Of course, this is a shortened list.)

1. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
I have actually been able to read half of this book and it is one of my favorites. Talk about thinking in a different perspective!

2. The Giver by Lois Lowry
I hope to read this before the movie comes out!

3. Thin Enough: My Spiritual Journey Through the Living Death of an Eating Disorder by Sheryle Cruse
This is a book I want to read for further knowledge because I want to work with preteen and teenage girls.

4. Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
This is a book I want to read because it is related to mass communications and has been recommended by a professor.

5. A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers
This is book number one of the Mark of the Lion series. This is a series I want to read because it has been recommended by many friends from Church.

79 Days

There are 79 days until I graduate. 79. Days.

I am definitely excited about graduation fast approaching. However, it is definitely fast approaching.

It seems the thing I am battling most during my last semester is how do I spend the best quality time with my friends while staying on top of my school work. Senoritis is truly a thing. Spending quality time with friends seems to be a reasonable excuse for not reading the assignment for tomorrows quiz. Correct? Unfortunately, no.

Two words. Time Management. College has definitely taught me the value of time. It has taught me that saying "yes" to everything is not the best decision. (Even if saying "yes" to good things.) The cool thing about it is that my friends usually understand why I have to say "no" to a
2 a.m. trip to Waffle House. They have to say "no" too sometimes.  However, it is a good thing to say "yes" to those spontaneous trips. That is how you make lasting memories. So do I say "yes" or "no?" Again two words. Time Management.
